Samir, born 1955 in Bagdad, grew up in Switzerland. In 1982 he first he worked as freelance author and director. Today Samir is well known for his unique work encompassing video and electronic cinema: he has worked on over 40 films, such as «Morlove - an Ode for Heisenberg» (1986) and the docu-essay «Babylon 2» (1993).
In 1994 he co-founded Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion with filmmaker Werner Schweizer. Located in Zurich, the aim of this production company was to encourage new, young swiss film-makers and talents.
In the Nineties, besides concentrating on his own projects as an independent producer and director, Samir worked for German broadcasters, directing several features and series for private channels such as SAT1, RTL and Pro7, as well as for public television channels such as WDR, ZDF, the French-German ARTE amongst others.
His films received national and international awards and also won him recognition for the innovative aspects of his work. Samir teaches at the Kunsthochschule für Medien (KHM) in Cologne and at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie (dffb) in Berlin.
