The film "Peiden" tells of the origin and everyday life of the around one dozen inhabitants of a small Graubünden mountain village in the Val Lumnezia. Since the avalanche danger of the location became the subject of discussion throughout Switzerland 50 years ago, Peiden has been viewed as the classic example of a dying village. But is that really the case?
The living short portraits of the very different and independent residents of Peiden are presented from the personal perspective of the author, Mattias Caduff, whose ancestors come from Peiden.
"My grandfather came from a tiny village in the Val Lumenzia. He must have emigrated around a hundred years ago, first to Chur, then to St. Gallen. He died before I was born. My father only once showed me the village in which he spent his summer holidays as a boy. He only rarely told of "Peiden" (Graubünden). According to my birth certificate, that's my hometown. I only really got to know the village recently. There were barely a dozen residents. I wanted to meet them all and tell you about them."
