Der prominente Wochenendauftritt hat sich für den Schweizer Film gelohnt. Nicht nur für NACHTLÄRM, zu dem Autor Martin Suter ein Drehbuch über ein junges Paar geschrieben hat, dessen Schreibaby eine nächtliche, einmal vergnügliche, dann wieder gefährliche Odyssee mit turbulenten Screwball-Verwicklungen auslöst. Die zwischen Komödie und Drama changierende Geschichte ist rasant und fast schnörkellos vorwärts erzählt. Der versammelten Politprominenz gefiel der Film offensichtlich. Dass das Schweizer Filmschaffen solche Schaufenster mit Ausstrahlung über die Schweizer Landesgrenzen hinaus nützen darf, ist ein ermutigendes, positives Zeichen für die hiesige Branche.
Im internationalen Wettbewerb vertreten die Schweizer Beiträge zwei unterschiedliche Richtungen des vielfältigen Filmschaffens dieses Landes: THE END OF TIME von Peter Mettler ist das reife Werk eines Ausnahmekünstlers, der auf frei assoziative, formal wie bildlich packende Weise darüber nachdenken lässt, was Zeit ist: unsere Lebenszeit, die Zeit im Universum. IMAGE PROBLEM von Simon Baumann und Andreas Pfiffner vertritt indessen eine junge Generation von Filmemachern; sie machten sich mit viel Elan und Humor auf, den problematischen Ruf unseres Landes im Ausland aufzupolieren, mithilfe der Menschen, die sich vor ihrer Kamera präsentierten.
