Der Versicherungsagent Vincent Baumann, ein kalter Karrierist, Höriger eines gnadenlosen Systems, wird selber Opfer der Konzerne, die er vertritt. Degradiert zum Handlanger, strengt er sich verbissen an, zurückzukommen auf den Arbeitsmarkt, kämpft um den Aufstieg. Dabei erkennt er, dass es noch andere Werte gibt als Einkommen und Erfolg. Und er entscheidet sich gegen seine bisherige Weltanschauung, für einen anderen Menschen, für Lisa Sokulowa. Eine Zukunft haben die beiden nicht. Aber ein kleiner Triumph bleibt ihnen gegen die Übermacht des herrschenden Systems.

The insurance agent Vincent Baumann, a cold-blooded careerist and minion of a ruthless system, becomes a victim of the very corporations he represents. Degraded to a henchman, he doggedly struggles to get back on the job market and climb the social ladder. In the process, he realises that there are other values besides income and success and decides against his previous ideology and for another human being, for Lisa Sokulowa. Although they do not have a future, the two manage to celebrate a minor triumph against the supremacy of the ruling system.

Vincent Baumann, agent d’assurances, carriériste sans cœur adepte d’un système implacable, est lui-même victime des groupes qu’il représente. Dégradé au rang d’homme à tout faire, il s’efforce avec acharnement de revenir sur le marché du travail et lutte pour sa promotion. Il s’aperçoit alors qu’il existe d’autres valeurs que le revenu et le succès. Et, contrairement à la conception du monde qu’il défendait jusque-là, il prend parti pour une autre personne, Lisa Sokulowa. Ces deux êtres ne connaîtront pas d’avenir commun, mais il leur reste le sentiment d’avoir remporté un petit triomphe contre l’hégémonie du système ambiant.
